And we couldn’t be more excited. After months of rehearsals and workshops, last night our intrepid tour guides Narcissa (Petra Elliott), Dave (Dave Lamb), Vic (Nadia Collins) and host Ben McKenzie roamed through the dark and empty space of the museum after hours to put the final polish on their presentations for the public.

Will it be a smooth ride? Will there be personality clashes and mayhem? There’s only one way to find out – see you on this year’s Melbourne Museum Comedy Tour!

And this year, that’s meant bringing on an extra pair of hands and an extra comedy brain, in the form of improviser and comedian Nadia Collins! Nadia, who regularly performs with The Big Hoo-Haa and has also been a guest in Dungeon Crawl, joins Dave Lamb, Petra Elliott and Museum Comedy founder Ben McKenzie for this year’s tour. I’d love to tell you more – but I couldn’t possibly give away any spoilers! Let’s just say this year won’t be quite like the last four…

A big thank you to our wonderful tour guides this year: Kate McLennan (aka Sammy Simpkins), Stella Young, Amanda Buckley and Danny McGinlay! Plus a big thank you to Bernard Caleo and all at Melbourne Museum who help make this event possible every year, especially all the volunteers who assist in the running of the tour every night. And of course, a big thank you to you, the Museum Comedy audience, who came out in droves to make the tour a knockout success for the fourth year in a row! We do it all for you, after all, and we promise we’ll be back – hopefully sooner than you think!

Meanwhile, there’s plenty of comedy going on throughout the year, so get out and have a laugh every now and then. Yes, you can find head tour guide Ben McKenzie in an article about comedy tours in this year’s Melbourne International Comedy Festival, alongside Rod Quantock (The History of the Melbourne Comedy Festival: A Walking Tour), Hannah Gadsby (Hannah Gadsby Celebrates NGV’s 150th) and Jo O’Callaghan (Op Shop Tour of Melbourne: Put the Op Back in Shop). In fact, we were in the Herald-Sun twice – there’s a teaser article and the main one.

It really is a bumper crop of comedy tours this year; I’m going to try and make it to all the other ones, and I’d encourage you to to the same!

You’ll also notice we’ve announced our line-up for the 2011 tour: this year, Ben McKenzie is joined by television star and character comedy queen Kate McLennan (Best Newcomer MICF 2007 and Best Comedy Melbourne Fringe 2006 for The Debutante Diaries), No Limits host and now Ramp Up editor Stella Young (two-time Victorian state Raw Comedy finalist), Australia’s Three Michelin Star comedian Danny McGinlay (Food Dude: Recipes for Disaster, The 7pm Project) and improviser extraordinary and veteran of the Mythic Creatures Comedy Tour, Amanda Buckley (Impro Australia, Beaconsfield the Musical).

We’ll be adding profiles of our new tour guides shortly, as well as noting their appearance dates in the gig guide here on the site. But for now, if you want tickets for the tour, get booking – they’re starting to really move!
